COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAM

At EYEDREAM, your ocular health is thoroughly evaluated in a comfortable and painless setting.  Dr. Kim performs a series of tests with the latest technology for an accurate assessment.  The following evaluations are performed during a comprehensive exam.

Visual Acuity

This measures how well you are seeing at a distance and close up using letters from the alphabet, numbers or even pictures for kids.

Binocular Vision Testing

This measures how well your eyes coordinate with each other.  You can experience blur, eye strain, double vision and poor depth perception if your ocular muscles are not working together.

Refraction

This procedure is to give you the best prescription for glasses and contact lenses to correct your eye sight.  No more “which is clearer, #1 or #2?”.   Dr. Kim uses the latest generation of electronic refraction technology to deliver the clearest and the sharpest vision.

Glaucoma Evaluation

This is a symptomless eye disease, sometimes called “silent thief” that affects the peripheral vision due to optic nerve tissue damage.  It is often but, not always associated with higher pressure in the eyes. Most times glaucoma is treated with prescribed eye drops, but surgical intervention may be needed for advance-stage glaucoma.  When detected early, progression of this disease can be prevented.

Diabetic Exam

Diabetes is one of the systemic diseases that directly affects the health of the eyes.  If untreated, this disease can cause blindness.  Diabetic patients should have a dilated eye exam every year to prevent diabetic retinopathy, a disease caused by an elevated glucose level leading to lack of oxygen supply to the retina, ultimately causing leakage of the blood vessels in the retina.  In advance stage of diabetic retinopathy, certain eye injection or laser treatment can be used to prevent further impact on the eyes.

Cataract Evaluation

This is an age-related change of the lens in the eyes.  This disease is corrected with a prescription or surgery.  Your eyes are evaluated to determine whether you will benefit from having a cataract removal surgery.  If needed, Dr. Kim prepares you to make sure your eyes are in good condition for the surgery and  follow up post-surgery.  You will be referred to a renown surgeon within our network and we’ll coordinate the surgery procedures from the start to the end.

Macular Degeneration Evaluation

Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of blindness.  This disease affects the macula, a small portion of the retina that is responsible for the central vision.  The condition further divides into “dry” and “wet” forms.  Early detection is critical with this disease since vision loss to macular degeneration cannot be reversed.  Lutein, zeaxanthin and omega-3 are known nutrients to prevent macular degeneration.

Lasik Evaluation

Interested in Lasik?  Not sure which surgery will be the best one for you?  Let Dr. Kim evaluate your eyes.  She will thoroughly explain the treatment options and direct you to the right surgeon.

Children’s Eye Care

Our emphasis for children’s eye care is very strong.  One of the conditions that is found among children is “lazy eye”.  It can be prevented and successfully treated if detected early.  If left untreated, this condition can permanently impair the eye sight.  Dr. Kim evaluates for color vision deficiency, ocular muscle performance and ocular health to make sure your child is growing with healthy eyes.

Orthokeratology (ortho-k)

The fitting of specially designed gas permeable contact lenses that you wear overnight. While you are asleep, the lenses gently reshape the front surface of your eye (cornea) so you can see clearly the following day after you remove the lenses when you wake up.
